Don't miss “Lights!  Canberra! Action!”

Top Twelve Screening and Awards Friday, 12 March

This competition is a scavenger hunt for filmmakers who have ten days to make a short film (seven minutes maximum) that includes a number of items.  This year’s items include a skateboard park, the Royal Australian Mint, Queanbeyan, the Pancake Parlour, and more.  The theme is “the flipside.”  Points will be awarded to filmmakers who include all items, theme, and for quality of story, camera work, directing, and other elements that go toward making a good short film.

Screenings will take place in Garema Place this year, with a screen brought in especially for the event.  Lights! Canberra! Action! under the stars in the heart of the City - what's not to love!  Don't forget to take a chair!

FREE EVENT: Belco Flicks II – Tropfest Dropouts on Thursday, 4 March
by Beth Harrison - Monday, 1 March 2010, 09:04 AM

A night of locally made short films (up to 10 minutes long) will be held at Belconnen Theatre (Belconnen Community Centre), Swanson Court in Canberra at 7:30 pm on Thursday, 4 March.

Belco Flicks provides Canberra’s film-making community with an opportunity to screen their films and local audiences the opportunity to see independent short films.  Many films are made each year for submission to Tropfest and other short film festivals.  Most don’t get accepted into the travelling festival and some are not even finished in time to meet the deadline.

Act I (for the family):  Animation, Puppets, Ninjas, Samurais, Love

Act II (for mature audiences):  Sex Scenes, Drug Use, Violence, Vampires, and Occasional Coarse Language

Some films premièring at Belco Flicks are:

The Splendid Colleague, of the friendship with fight, directed by Paul Shanouski and produced by Dan Miller (teacher at AIE Canberra).  This quality animation shows two martial artists and old best friends now turned rivals who return to their dying Sensei and face off against each other to take the Sensei’s most valuable possession.  50c and Thrown away are two poignant shorts produced and directed by 16 year old film maker Josie Baynes.  The Three Egos, produced and directed by Corinne Sennit, depicts a last minute confrontation between a writer and a director that creates havoc for a film producer.

Belco Flicks II is showing two AIE productions from last year among other films.
